Government leaders, business representatives, industry experts and community partners came together to further the 10-year vision for goods movement in the Bay Area.
On December 11, Alameda CTC and MTC brought together government leaders, business representatives, industry experts and community partners for an afternoon roundtable to further the 10-year vision for goods movement investment – ensuring efficient connectivity, mobility, safety and emissions reductions in the Bay Area. Topics including “Moving Goods Movement Forward in the Bay Area,” “Investing in the Region,” and “Planning for the Megaregion” brought discussion by elected officials, Port of Oakland and BAAQMD executives, the Bay Area Council, the California State Transportation Agency and others.
“All goods that move through the Bay Area must move through Alameda County, said Alameda CTC Chair Rebecca Kaplan, Oakland City Councilmember At-Large. “Together, we can help move our goods more efficiently to improve the health of our economy and our communities.”
Key local goods movement initiatives include safety and efficiency projects at the Port of Oakland, Innovative and Clean projects such as Cool Port (a major rail served refrigerated warehouse), and on-going emission reduction programs that support our community and clean business needs.
“Today, we are excited to embark upon a 10-year roadmap to get the region to support goods movement, “said Alameda County Supervisor and Alameda CTC Commissioner Scott Haggerty. “This roadmap represents an unprecedented level of collaboration at the regional level – including Alameda CTC, MTC, the Port of Oakland, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Caltrans the East Bay Economic Development Alliance, community organizations and congestion management agencies throughout the Bay Area and beyond, including partners in our greater megaregion.”
