Use Your Pass

Discover all you need to get started and learn how to use your Student Transit Pass with our step-by-step guide!

Set Up Your Account

When you receive your Student Transit Pass, create an online account by visiting the Clipper registration page

After that, you can add value, view your history, and plan your trip with the Clipper app.

Transfer Your Pass to Your Phone

If you have a smartphone, you can transfer your physical card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay. Instructions are available on the Clipper pay by phone page.

IMPORTANT: The physical card will not work upon transferring the card to a smartphone.

Add E-Cash for BART and Other Transit Systems

Cash value can be added to your Student Transit Pass online, on your phone, or in person at participating retailers, self-service machine, or staffed service location. Add value to ride BART and other transit services.

Ride the Bus
  1. Plan Your Trip: Find the best bus route(s) to get you to your destinations using these trip planner resources from AC Transit, Union City Transit, or Wheels.
  2. Arrive Early: Be at the bus stop five minutes before the scheduled arrival. Make sure you are at the right stop, traveling in the right direction, and that the route number is on the bus stop sign.
  3. Board and Tap: Wait for the bus to stop, board at the front door, and tap your digital or physical pass on the reader. Take a seat or stand and hold on!
  4. Request a Stop: Signal the driver one block before your stop by pressing the stop button or pulling the cord along the window.
  5. Exit: If possible, exit through the rear door. Wait until the bus pulls away before crossing the street.
Load a Bike onto the Front of the Bus
  1. Notify the driver.
  2. Squeeze the bike rack handle and pull down the rack to load your bike.
  3. Make sure your bike is secure: extend the hook over your tire.
  4. Ride near the front of the bus so you can keep an eye on your bike.
  5. At the end of your bus ride, exit through the front door and let the driver know that you need to unload your bicycle.
